In fact, he went up to the feast in secret. He knew they were trying to kill him.
But at he end of the Gospel one thing still stands out: They try to arrest him, and they can't "because his hour had not yet come."
He doesn't need to hide. They can't arrest him anyway. So, the only conclusion we can make here is that Jesus went in secret for THEIR sake.
Jesus, in fact, did everything for others: miracles, prayer, preaching, walking on the water... and yes, even hiding from the authorities.
Jesus was thinking of souls every step of the way. Of each and every soul. So when he was walking on the water - he could do it, because he was God - he was thinking of YOU.
