Lenten Fasting

(Gospel) Did John's disciples have it all wrong?

They wanted to know WHY Jesus' disciples didn't fast, while they did. We could almost say, while they HAD TO.
But wasn't it perfectly fine, since they were asking Jesus himself?

Well, it would have been perfectly fine if they were sincerely asking what they should be doing. Where they messed up, was in comparing themselves with others, instead of asking themselves whether they were truly doing God's will.

It is not enough to approach God in prayer, we are also required to ask -humbly- what he wants of us.

  1. We cannot, must not compare ourselves to others. We are all on our OWN spiritual journey; we have to examine our own hearts and innermost feelings, listen for God in our prayer and act accordingly. Let others follow you by your example.
